Dutch designer Saskia Nooij had been sitting with the idea of making wine bottle holders from sheepskin. At the end of 2013, she made the first designer wine cooler and called it the Wooler, a portmanteau of Wool and Cooler. The wine cooler is made of sheepskin and stitched together with a special sewing machine. The stitching from the sewing machine gives a characteristic look to the wine cooler, similar to the boot shaft on a UGG boot (fur boots, to those who missed the trend).
Always a fine wine
This designer wine cooler Wooler is made of Texel Sheepskin. Texel sheepskin is a bit rough, airy, but isn't too dense in composition. It's not the wool, but the air between the fibres that keep the temperature. Air has the unique property of insulating heat.
Red wine temperature
Pouring a nice red that you just pulled out of the wine fridge? Place it in the designer wine cooler and it will be at the right temperature for the entire evening. The temperature of the wine is closed off from the rest of the space. Therefore it is no longer subjected to the heat or cold of a room. An excellent and tasteful way of storing wine!
A white stays cool for longer
That a red stays warm in a woollen wine bottle holder is a bit of a no-brainer. However, the insulating power of this design works just fine for cooled white wines! In this sheepskin Wooler, a cooled white wine will stay cool for the entire evening! Though, it must be cooled beforehand, as this wine cooler does not actually cool the wine.
